The Challenge: Combating Food Waste Through Smart Shopping

Shoppers often buy ingredients without a clear meal plan, leading to household food spoilage. Mijotons bridges the gap by suggesting recipes tailored specifically to the items currently in the user's cart or pantry.

Native Mobile Architecture

Developed in Java with the Android SDK. Features a local SQLite database for instant offline access and asynchronous HTTP queries to the OpenStreetMap Overpass API for real-time supermarket coordinates.

Key Engineering Challenges

  • Optimizing battery consumption during GPS location queries.
  • Designing a responsive UI supporting varied Android screen densities.
